January 18, 2017
The El Campo High School chapters of POWER SET (Powerful Opportunities
for Women Eager and Ready for Science, Engineering and
Technology) and WIT (Workforce Industry
Training)came to visit and tour STP on January 12, 2017. The
club's sponsors, teachers Marissa McCoy and Adrian Canales, bring
their students yearly.
The purpose of POWER SET is to target local female high school
students who show significant interest and aptitude in Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). It also encourages
female students to explore professional opportunities in nuclear
and STEM-related fields.
WIT is modeled on the POWER SET program but open to both male
and female students in high schools. It provides the educational
tools and essential support to pursue educational professional
opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
technical fields. WIT is sponsored by Nuclear Power Institute. Established in 2007, NPI
is a statewide partnership led by the Texas A&M Engineering
Experiment Station and headquartered at Texas A&M
El Campo High School WIT and POWER SET members and sponsors.
